T.V. Not Good For America?

        Every year America gets more and more dependent on technology, with cell phones tuning into mobile computers and computers being easy references for anything. I think if you typed anything at all into Google nowadays there would at least be one thing for you to look at.
         Television has been an entertainment center for years and years now. American relies on television to be there for them when they are bored. Children watch way too much television in America. That is why I believe one of the reasons why America is the number one obese country is because of the amount television we watch and the lack of activity that we do. Instead of going outside to play and and engaging in outside activities, children are often stuck inside with their eyes glued to the television. T.V. limits children's imaginations and creativity. Some people say well some shows are educational, well yes some are but when it comes down to it, most children don't want to watch educational shows and there aren't a lot to choose from if there are any on.
          People need to realize that there is so much more to do in life than sit in front of a T.V. and rot your brain. I bet with the hours spent watching T.V. instead of being active someone could have figured out a plan to stop world hunger or something like that. If American turned the T.V.s off everyone would have to figure out ways to get along without it being there. There wouldn't be an excessive amount of laying down for a lot of people anymore because they would get bored in their beds, so this would force them to get up and get active.

Power of Advertisement.

                 Advertisement has been going for thousands of years and started in ancient Greece and Egypt. Then when printing came in the picture it began to take new form in 1477 in London.
                 People use advertising to get across to others what ever their selling or what ever message that they want to be heard. It's the power of seeing and believing. We as people need to see things actually work in order to believe that they work. We are also very curious creatures who love to try new things. Advertising helps businesses show products, if they didn't have advertising it would be harder to sell the item because it would never be seen by the people.
                   I think the best advertisements are the food advertisements because we are always eating and most of us like to try new things. So, when we see new sandwiches on T.V. from Burger King or  Wendy's we want to immediately try them. Especially because they make the food look so perfect and juicy on the T.V.
                 Also the affect that advertisements have had on society is unreal. Advertisements are constantly advertising sex and selling sex. Like if you wear this lipstick the guys will all want you, or if you put on this cologne you will be irresistible to the ladies. Or adds for jeans where they aren't wearing any clothes at all and the jeans are lying on the side somewhere. These kind of adds that are egging on sex could be one of the many reasons there are increasing numbers of teen pregnancies.
                 Advertising has had years of time to develop and become more affective. The power it has on the people continues to grow exponentially.

               

Wright What?

          I auditioned for dance and applied to a total of 9 schools. I got in to everyone dance program except Julliard and got into every school except Fordham University, which is the college for Ailey B.F.A. program. Wright State was just one of those schools that you could call a "back up." My decision came down to Point Park University and Wright State University. Point Park has an amazing dance program in Pittsburgh, PA. Little did I know Wright State has an amazing one too.
         Anyways, The thing that interested me most is that I could be in a second company while earning my B.F.A. I sent in my audition tape to the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and made the cut. I was still really in between. Point Park is really expensive, but I had spent 6 weeks last summer there so I know that I liked the teachers and I know that I would get what I needed. Also PA is pretty close to New York so I could go there on vacation. On the other hand Wright State was completely affordable and I observed a couple classes and I was impressed with the teachers, but I just didn't really know anything about it, I had no idea what the mascot was until I went into the bookstore for the first time at orientation.
            It was like a sign sent from God. I was at a dance competition in Wisconsin at the Kalahari and the judges there were from the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. Marlayna and Lemoi were two of the judges and they did a performance at the end of the competition for us. They were amazing, I thought to myself "I would love to be able to dance like them." So, right then and there I decided that I would go to Wright State University. I am very happy with my decision because the dance program and the people are so amazing.

For Good

        The song, "For Good" is by Stephen Schwartz. I have liked this song ever since it was introduced to me my freshman year. It is from the musical "Wicked." This musical is the bad witch's point of view of the story, "The Land of Oz." This song comes in when Alphaba, the "bad" witch and Glenda, the "good" witch have to part because everyone is trying to kill Alphaba.
       Every year this song is used for graduation. It is a song about how much we have grown just by knowing each other and even though we have to part from one another,they will always be with us, in our heart. This song is very important to me because I could relate to it every year, I kept meeting new people in high school that changed my life "for good." I was also told in high school by younger people that I had changed their lives. Not only the song was important to me but what it represented, a circle. The circle in which everyone will go through the same things I went through and every year, freshman will sing this same song until they are seniors leaving something for the younger people to remind them by. When I sing the song for good it reminds me of each graduation that I have been through in my life and also the members of my favorite class in school, Show Choir.
        The purpose of this song in the musical is to let Alphaba and Glenda know that they will both be missed in each others lives but never gotten and that is also why we sing it at graduation. The audience is for all the people who are watching, targeting everyone who could relate to this song, which should be just about everyone. The Genre is a song/poem. The stance is loving, caring, knowing that you will be sad to see them go but you both have a future upon you. The medium is through song, it is singing.

Death

             I'm pretty sure I'm about to die. Soon. I have only been at school for a week but I already feel overwhelmed. I'm emotionally and physically drained and I'm sick of homework. I thought that college was suppose to be fun, hard work here and there, but still a lot of fun. Well, I don't think I have had much of any fun since I got into this state known as Ohio. I'm physically moving intensely for more than 7 hours everyday and I never get enough sleep because I don't get home until 10:30 and then I only have time to do homework and shower, and sometimes I don't have enough time to do that. I haven't seen my boyfriend in over a month and the part that kills me is that is going to be another 2 before I get to stare into his gorgeous green eyes again. Before I left for college I hadn't spent more then a couple days without him.
          Then God said "Let there be light," and finally there was good time on campus. I finally got to spend time with really great people. The liberal arts program has the best people in the world, everyone is so nice. The reason why it's been so hard for me is because I had to be here 3 weeks before school started because of DCDC2. So, there was no sign of existence anywhere. Things are starting to look up for me and hope that there are more gatherings to come but the seniors kind of already assured me that there wouldn't be another one like it. I guess that means i definitely should get my hopes up.
